Saying goodbye to foreign volunteers on Ukrainian soil is where the sharp pain of war meets the highest human dignity. We cannot choose where we are born, but we are entirely free to choose our values and duty. Freedom has no nationality. It serves as a stark reminder to all of us who remain alive: the only thing that truly matters is what we devote it to. By honoring our heroes and enshrining their names in our history, we build timeless monuments for generations to come. Every day, our foundation witnesses the incredible resilience of the families we support. Their strength is about living through fear, exhaustion, and uncertainty. Today, thousands of those who serve are fighting for something that should be simple: the right to be with their loved ones. Some wait months for a single embrace measured in minutes. Some hold onto hope, counting days and prayers until their loved one returns home from captivity. Others learn to carry a silence that no words can soften — the silence of a loss that becomes part of them forever. We believe that the families of defenders should never be left alone with these challenges. Yesterday, our team gathered for the seasonal cleaning and reorganization of our flag memorial at Maidan, a tradition we began more than three years ago. We’ve been doing this carefully, preserving the memory of defenders. Behind every flag is a defender, and behind every defender are families, friends, and stories carried by those the Foundation supports. This space belongs to them. We welcome all who visit to honor the missing and fallen with flowers, notes, and thoughts of strength for the families enduring loss from afar. We are proud of our growing partnership with @mvs_ua. Our team, led by our President @mobbs_mentality, recently held a pivotal working meeting to advance this collaboration, marking a massive step in strengthening interagency coordination. The Ministry plays a critical role in the identification of the fallen. Together, we are focusing on high-impact strategic goals to transform this process: scaling the framework for identifying the fallen with speed and precision,upgrading biometric tools to speed up the identification and streamlining the processes that bring heroes back home. Our shared goal is to build a permanent platform where the state, the public sector, and international partners work all together. This systematic work creates a blueprint for national resilience and humanitarian response that carries lessons far beyond Ukrainian borders. We fight not for numbers, but for names, because identification is the final and most crucial step in returning and preserving the name of every defender.

Tyrone “Lam” Lamyaithong always wanted to be where he was needed most. An engineer by training and a National Guardsman by calling, he could not stand aside during the war in Ukraine. Without telling his parents, he left his safe life in the US to help the Ukrainian people fight for freedom. His mother, Aleli, says he was “bullheaded” in his decisions — once Tyrone made up his mind, there was no stopping him. He was killed in action in January 2026 in the Donetsk region. Bringing Tyrone home was a profound challenge for his family, who were simultaneously dealing with his grandmother’s severe illness. But thanks to collective efforts, “Lam” is finally at rest in his native West Virginia. His story is one of exceptional bravery that, according to his mother, was “always in him.” His tombstone bears words of the greatest love, and we know that this love is eternal. Rest in peace, Hero🕯️🇺🇦🇺🇸

Before the full-scale invasion, Kostiantyn worked as a telecom tower design engineer. In February 2024, he was mobilized and went from serving as a grenadier to becoming a UAV operator. His expertise in communications proved critical on the front line, where he installed complex equipment in forward positions. Today, Kostiantyn is beginning a new chapter — rehabilitation in Lithuania. This is more than a medical journey, it’s a step closer to his family. “I’m feeling very positive, as my entire family is now in Lithuania. Even though we’ll be in different cities, 300 kilometers is far less than the distance that separated us while I was in Ukraine.” He is setting off with just a backpack, a bag, and a strong determination to recover and return home. We are deeply grateful to Kostiantyn for his service and wish him a speedy recovery and a warm reunion with his loved ones 🇺🇦🇱🇹

Tyrone “Lam” Lamyaithong was a man of contrasts: a brilliant engineer with a “nerdy” side, a goofy friend who lived for a good laugh, and a fierce soldier with an unbreakable ethos. Without telling his parents, knowing they would try to protect him, Tyrone left West Virginia for Ukraine. He didn’t go for glory, he went because he believed he could make a difference against “the ugly heads of war.” Not long ago, Tyrone was finally laid to rest in his hometown of Man, West Virginia, escorted by a procession of heroes that spanned states. While his mother, Aleli, continues to care for her own ailing mother, she stands tall in the knowledge that her son died doing exactly what he felt called to do. Later this week, we will share the full journey of Tyrone – the story of a hero who found his purpose in the fight for freedom.
